World Environment Day is a campaign, celebrate every year by the people worldwide on 5th of June. This campaign was established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly. This campaign raises global awareness among people about environmental issues as well as take positive environmental actions. Since it begins in 1972, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in more than 100 countries.
The theme for World Environment Day 2018, hosted by India was “BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION” which was a call to action for all of us to come together to combat one of the great environmental challenges of our time. World Environment day 2019 will be hosted by China, with a theme of “BEAT AIR POLLUTION”. We can’t stop breathing, but we can do something about the quality of air that we breathe.
Approximately 7 million people worldwide die prematurely each year from air pollution, with about 4 million of these deaths occurring in Asia-Pacific. World Environment day 2019 urge government, industry, communities, and individuals to come together to explore green technologies and improve air quality in cities and regions across the world.
Did you know that – According to the theme of World Environment day 2019 China is building a Smog-eating “Forest city” filled with tree-covered skyscrapers?
The world first “Vertical forest city” created to fight pollution, is now under construction in Liuzhou, Guangxi Province along the Liujiang river in China. Designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti. The futuristic forest city will be home to a community of about 30,000 people. It will be covered nearly 1 million plants of more than 100 species and 40,000 trees, that together absorb almost 10,000 ons of carbon dioxide and 57 tons of pollutants and produce approximately 900 tons of oxygen annually.
As a result forest city will help the average air temperature, improve local air quality, generate habitats, and improve local biodiversity in the region. Forest City will be self-sufficient running on renewable energy sources. The city includes commercial zones, residential areas, recreation spaces, a hospital, and schools. The project has a high profile in China, and if it succeeds, it will set an example for green city design around the world. The project is planned to be completed sometime in 2020.
Air Pollution Facts:
92 percent of people worldwide do not breathe clean air. Air pollution costs the global economy $5 trillion every year in welfare costs Ground-level ozone pollution is expected to reduce staple crop yields by 26 percent by 2030
Our environment is getting declined day by day because of pollution and global warming.
We should celebrate and promote eco-friendly development in our country in order to save the environment. Everyone should ask herself what are we doing to save the environment at the individual level? So come on in this Worlds Environment day let’s take an oath to do plantation and take care of our rich biodiversity for a better future.
