Amazon is planning to launch itself in the Indian food delivery market. Currently, Zomato and Swiggy two Indian unicorns dominate the Indian market.
According to the reports emerging from the Amazon executive, the company will take a commission of 6-7% on food delivery services as opposed to Swiggy and Zomato charging 15-17% from restaurants.
The launch of this service can be expected by October as per the media report. Bangalore would be the first city where Amazon will provide its services.
It might be launched by the name of ‘Amazon Restaurant’ which would be used through Amazon grocery delivery app Prime Now.
Recently, Amazon executive said;
“The e-commerce behemoth is actively pitching to break exclusivity contracts restaurants have signed with food aggregators.”
Earlier it was also reported that Amazon was looking for a partnership with Foodpanda which is Ola’s Food delivery arm.
This partnership could have turned into an acquisition. And before this, it was also reported that Amazon was in talks with Uber Eats for their acquisition.
