Social media giant Facebook and Snapchat owner Snap held talks to buy Dubsmash, one of the fastest rising rivals to ByteDance’s short-video sharing app TikTok, reported by The Information.

Interestingly, this development comes when Microsoft is trying to get its hand on a deal to buy TikTok from ByteDance in the U.S.

However, Facebook and Snap were no longer in deal talks, the report suggests. The Information also claims that Snap Spokesman said, “We admire the team but aren’t in active talks to acquire.”

This becomes more limelight gaining news as a few days back, U.S. President Donald Trump passed an order to ban China’s TikTok. Trump also prohibits transactions with its parent ByteDance.

Trump has given a deadline of Sept. 15 to Microsoft to put together a blueprint deal, which could safeguard the personal data of Americans stored on the app.

Meantime, in recent U.S. Congress hearing, Facebook also got accused of acquiring former competitors, including photo-sharing app Instagram and messaging app WhatsApp.
