Now the Indian Army decides to join the Aatm Nirbhar Bharat initiative. Under this, the Indian Army launches a WhatsApp like secure messaging app Secure Application for Internet aka SAI. The messaging app will help the army soldiers to safeguard their sensitive or private information.
In this instant messaging app, the Indian Army will use an end-to-end encryption protocol like other similar messaging apps. Better encryption clearly means that no one can read the messages except for the sender and the receiver. However, other apps like Telegram, WhatsApp, etc always claim the same.
Feature of Indian Army’s SAI Messaging App
- SAI had end-to-end encrypted text, voice, and video calling
- It has local in-house servers and coding
- Data is not stored on Amazon or Facebook server (Even not outside India)
- Utilized pan-Army
- Also, a secure messaging option within the service
- Vetted by CERT-in & Army Cyber Group

SAI app is currently available only on Android. However, it is only available for army personnel. The general public can’t have any access to it.
Although, the iOS version of the SAI app is in the progress. Meanwhile, this development comes as the Indian Army recently banned Facebook and Instagram along with over 89 apps. Also, the reason behind this ban is related to national security risks.
