Joint Parliamentary Committee on data bill calls Facebook officials for deposition on August 10

Personal Data Protection Bill which is being scrutinized by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC)  has summoned officials from social media giant Facebook for deposition on its 2nd meeting to be held on 10th August.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre and L&L Partners-Law Office officials from industry body Assocham are also invited to be part of the meeting.

The representatives from the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) were called in the earlier meeting to give details on the Bill provisions. ET also has earlier reported that the committee is in communication with Industry major players like Amazon and Microsoft, tech industry lobby group Nasscom and also some academic institutions before any depositions on the remarkable bill.

Last time the feedback of associates was taken in February by committee. They had written to different firms and institutions for providing a presentation that will aid “oral submission” which they will make once they appear before the committee.
