Micromax Is Back With ‘IN Mobiles’

There was a time when Micromax was within the top 3 Indian smartphone brand. Additionally, the company was known to give a tough competition to Samsung, the country’s most popular brand at the time.

However, the company loses its market share as Chinese smartphone brands made its debut in India. Brands like Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Realme become so popular in the mid-range smartphone segment in a very few times. From there, Micromax has been almost disappeared from the market.

Meanwhile, after the Indian govt call for an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India), the homegrown smartphone maker has decided to make a comeback. Now the company comes up with its “In” range of smartphones.

In this row, Micromax will invest Rs.. 500 crore on expanding local manufacturing and research and development (R&D) operations.

Meantime, Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma Sharma said;

“The new PLI scheme balances out foreign and Indian players. The support of 6 percent is big and with the government support, we will be able to fight Chinese brands fiercely on the pricing front.”

This move comes after the top mobile phone makers like Apple, Foxconn, Wistron, etc, have committed to investing Rs 11,000 crore under the PLI scheme. The PLI scheme aims to position India as a global hub for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM).
