#Remember17Sept Is Trending On Twitter As ‘National Unemployment Day’

Today, Remember 17 Sept (#Remember17Sept) is trending on the microblogging platform, Twitter as ‘National Unemployment Day‘. But the question is, what is the ‘National Unemployment Day‘? And how this is related to Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi?

Actually, this hashtag marks as a protest against the high unemployment rates in the country. We all know that as per the National Statistical Office (NSO) report, India’s April-June quarter GDP is contracted by a 23.9 percent. This marks the first contraction in more than 40 years. Notably, the data offers the first benchmark of the state of India’s economy after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meantime, the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy report suggests that the urban unemployment rate in the country in the week ending 6 September 2020 is 8.32 percent.

And now because of the economic slowdown and high unemployment rate, the unemployed youth have decided to celebrate National Unemployment Day (Rashtriya Berojgar Divas) on September 17. Also, the whole week will be marked as Rashtriya Berojgar Saptah. But why they choose 17, September specifically?

Actually, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will turn 70 on September 17, 2020. And that’s the reason, Twitterati has decided to celebrate PM Modi’s birthday as “Unemployment Day” on September 17.
