Every invention in history has an interesting story linked to it, like the one behind the discovery of matches. John Walker is the person behind the discovery of matches.
John Walker was a chemist in Stockton. In the year 1826, one day he met with a lucky accident. There was a stick in his house which was covered with chemicals. By mistake, the stick got rubbed against the rough surface of the walls. Due to the sudden friction, the chemical over it got burst into flames. That’s how the Matches were discovered.
He named them “Friction Lights”. Earlier he used cardboards, but after that, he started using woods. He did not apply for a patent for the matches.
