PM Modi led government has come up with the ‘Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge‘ to promote homegrown microprocessor companies. The challenge aims at the making of Atmanirbhar Bharat aka a self-reliant India.
Notably, before this Microprocessor Development Programme, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has already rolled out microprocessors ‘Shakti‘ and ‘Vega.’
Under this Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge, 100 shortlisted companies could win a total prize worth ₹1 Crore. Wait, the best part is 25 finalists will get win ₹1 crore each. But the last top 10 teams will be award with the seed fund of a total ₹2.30 crore along with 12 months of incubation support.
While launching this challenge, the Union Minister of Law and Justice, Communications and Electronics and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad said;
“Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge, Innovate Solutions for #Aatmanirbhar Bharat seeks to invite innovators, startups, and students. This is to use these microprocessors to develop various technology products. This initiative is aimed at meeting India’s future requirements of strategic and industrial sectors. And this also has the potential to mitigate the issues of security, licensing, technology obsolescence, and most crucially cutting dependency on imports.”
Meanwhile, the registration process has already begun on 18 August and the challenge will be spread over 10 months.

This Microprocessor Development Programme by MeitY at C-DAC, IIT Madras, and IIT Bombay aims to compute the ecosystem around industry-grade Microprocessors.
Meantime, for strengthening the #VocalForLocal campaign, govt has already launched content to promote a homegrown video conferencing tool along with giving a push to local mobile applications.
